Quetta, August 24, 2010:Tethyan Copper Company Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited (TCC) has donated Rs. 8.5 million to support Government of Balochistan’s efforts for relief to the victims of the recent floods. The donation cheque was handed over to the Chief Minister of Balochistan Nawab Aslam Khan Raisani by CEO of TCC, Gerhard Von Borries today at the Chief Minister’s secretariat.

TCC’s CEO stated, “TCC feels that it is just the right thing to reach out and help people in times of distress and to make a concerted effort in reducing the sufferings. We stand by the brave people of Balochistan in these trying times and hope for the earliest provision of relief to the affectees.”

The recent heavy downpour has caused severe flooding across the national landscape including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sind and Balochistan. As a result millions of people have been forced to flee their homes and take shelter under the open sky. In Balochistan the worst affected areas include Harnai, Nasirabad, Jaffarabad, Bolan, Ziarat, Loralai and Kohlu districts. TCC’s donation is meant to help in alleviating the suffering of the affected masses and to sustain through these tough times.

TCC as a responsible corporate citizen has always endeavored to provide humanitarian aid in case of natural disasters in Balochistan. Recently in June, TCC donated Rs.8.5 million for the cyclone affectees in Gwadar; in 2008 donated Rs.10 million for the victims of the earthquake; and in 2007 aid worth Rs.7.5 million was provided to the victims of the floods in Chaghai.
